Herberg De Hondsrug is situated in a forest among the beautiful nature, the many megalithic tombs and the valley (Stroomdal) through which the rivers the Drentsche Aa and the Hunze run.
We are directly located on hiking, cycling, horse-riding, mountain biking, skating and now even electric wheelchair routes, which you can obtain for free.
Additionally, we are the ideal starting point for Nordic Walking.

Our tastefully decorated rooms without a threshold are situated on the ground floor. You can help yourself to coffee, tea or a (non)alcoholic drink from the kitchenette. Moreover, we offer extensive free parking.

All in all, this three star hotel is furnished according to contemporary requirements, but with the geniality of the past and personal attention for all our guests.

Food & beverage

We offer all our guests bed and breakfast.
Breakfast is served in the parlour on Monday through Friday from 7:00 to 9:30 and Saturdays and Sundays from 8:00 to 10:00. You can also read a book here or play games. The information folders will aid you with choosing from the many cycling, hiking and electric wheel chair routes and the great variety of sights in the vicinity.
Additionally, we offer a kitchenette with a tea and coffee machine and a refrigerator with various (non-)alcoholic drinks, to which you can help yourself. Just note down what you've taken and we'll charge the total amount at your departure.

The 5 luxury double rooms have all private shower and toilet, hairdryer, television, safe, radio with wake-up function en beds with a length of 2.10m.

Area information

Herberg De Hondsrug is situated among forests and a lot of scenic beauty, such as the five star nature reserve of the valley (Stroomdal) of the Drentsche Aa River. Here you will still find half of all the types of plants and flowers that can be found in the Netherlands. On the other side you will come across the Hunze River, which has been restored to its former state.

The Hondsrug is an area that offers a lot of options for tourists. There are many kilometres worth of cycling, hiking, skating and mountain biking trails set out and only recently there were 6 routes set out especially for electric wheelchairs through our beautiful green municipality Aa en Hunze.
This is also the place to be for golf, as we are centrally located among the golf courses in Assen, Glimmen, Veendam and Gasselte. There are also a lot of sights well worth visiting, such as the commemorative monument Kamp Westerbork, the Planetron in Dwingeloo, the zoo Noorder Dierenpark in Emmen, Drents museum in Assen, Groninger Museum, the dolmen information centre (Hunebedcentrum) in Borger, the motor race track of the TT-circuit in Assen or the Boomkroonpad in Drouwen. There are also a lot of different options for children, such as the Verkeerspark (fun park with a traffic theme) in Assen, Sprookjeshof (small theme park, inspired by fairy tales) in Zuidlaren, Kabouterland (gnome land) in Exloo, the toy museum in Roden and the covered fun park Speelstad Oranje.

How to reach us:

Coming from Zwolle on the A28:
- Take exit 32, Assen-zuid and then the N33 to Veendam.
- Take the third exit on the roundabout (at Gieten), this is the N34 in the direction of Groningen.
- Take the exti Annen/Anlo en go right towards Annen.
- Go straight ahead on the small roundabout.
- Take the right 75 meters after the BP gas station.
- After 1800 meters you will see Herberg de Hondsrug on your right.

Coming from Groningen on the A28
- Take exit 36, Zuidlaren / Gieten / Emmen. You will be on the N34.
- Take the exti Annen/Anlo en go right towards Annen.
- Go straight ahead on the small roundabout.
- Take the right 75 meters after the BP gas station.
- After 1800 meters you will see Herberg de Hondsrug on your right.

A lunch can be provided at a charge.
If you bring your own bicycle, you can store it in our shed.
If you make your reservation more than 2 weeks in advance, a 50% prepayment of the total amount applies.
