Area information

The Eifel area is rich in history and culture. In the forests you can see the oldest stone grave in Germany as well as Stone Age menhirs and sacrificial stones. The Celts left a legacy of stone walls, graves and sacred possessions in the area, and there are traces of villas, temples, altars, cremation sites and roads. There are also many nearby castles and abbeys on either side of the border between Germany and Luxembourg.

The German-Luxembourg nature park offers diverse landscapes. In the north there are forested, rugged shale mountains and in the south, unique cliff patterns on the edges of the high plateau. This area is rich in unspoiled countryside, as well as rare plants and animals. You can take the well signposted walking trails through the park. The new Teufelsschluct and Gaytalpark visitor centres provide ample information on the natural park.

Sporting visitors will find a whole host of leisure pursuits here. You can go hiking, mountain biking, running, swimming in pools or lakes, climbing, canoeing, paddle boating, gliding, hot air ballooning, cycling, or play golf or tennis.
